Arakanese Muslim,
popularly known as Rohingya refugee or Rohingya Muslims are the indigenous (native)of the land of Arakan, the ethnic majority and the ancient inhabitants of their own land, Arakan. They are Arakanese Muslim. But sadly, today their identity completely changed into a different name. Sad truth is that the whole world knows them as Rohingya Refugee. Although they have their own land, culture, language and their own home.
They have very rich history of Islam; Arabs were the earliest people to travel to the east by sea. They were in contact with Arakan even during the pre-Islamic days. The Arakanese first received the message of Islam from the ship wracked Arabs in 788 A.D. Such ship-wrecks occurred over and over in the coasts of Arakan and Chittagong. They received the message of Islam and accepted the truth of Islam wholeheartedly. Islam spread and deeply rooted in Arakan since 8th century from where it further spread into interior Burma (Myanmar). The large number of Arakanese people came into the shade of Islam, to the extent that for a period of more than two hundred years, the Arakanese kings took Muslim titles and used Muslim names in their coins. They followed Muslim traditions and culture at home. Col. Ba Shin, the then Chairman of the Burma Historical Commission states, “Arakan was virtually ruled by Muslim from 1430 to 1531.”

And all this started by Rohingya Muslims, who holds a very rich history of Islam, Knowledge of Deen and beauty of Islamic culture in their chest. But today they became a forgotten part in the history, and the name turned into Rohingya Refugee. If we search the name, we find some people who are stateless, people who are in need and want, the very sight of their state bring eye tears.
When Buddhist and military government came into the government of Myanmar, they consider Arakan Muslim as a threat, so they made many plans to subdue them. Despite living in Myanmar for generations and having a great history of ownership of the land of Arakan, the Arakanese Muslim, received very harsh treatment from the modern government. Their citizenship was revoked, and they have been denied citizenship since 1982 from government and this was for their Identity of Islam only, there was a great Anty Islamic propaganda behind it. In the state documents, they were documented as stateless and vulnerable people since many years. and all kinds of discrimination and violence were taking place with until the government reached to a point to do genocide, about 25,000–43,000 people were killed, many sisters were raped, mass murder, religious and ethnic cleansing took place with the aid of military government of Myanmar, and their slogan was, “kill all you see.”
This widespread execution, resulted in over 742,000 Rohingya fleeing to Bangladesh in 2027, joining hundreds of thousands who had previously fled in earlier waves of violence. Since then, Rohingya Muslim turned into the name of Rohingya refugee.
Current Situation of Refugees
As of 2025, there are approximately 1.2 million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, with the number having increased significantly since the mass displacement began in 2017. The Rohingya community has been living in Bangladesh for over seven years, facing numerous challenges such as overcrowding, limited access to services, and ongoing humanitarian needs. Let’s raise funds build a Madrasah in Rohingya camp
There are 6,400 learning centers in Cox’s Bazar – the world’s largest refugee camp – which is home to about one million people including more than 500,000 children. Including UNISEF, many organizations working to help our Rohingya brother and sisters. But the need is still huge and unending,
Al-Kareemah Lillah is trying to raise funds to build a Madrasah in the Rohingya camp. We are also trying to create an educational center where Arabic and English language will be taught to them InshaAllah. Because the kids are the future world, and we have to make sure a better future world inshaAllah. And when the point of education comes, the Quraan and Islam are at first, so we chose to build a Madrasah in this area. So come forward to make it happen-
“If someone alleviates a Muslim’s suffering, Allah will alleviate their suffering from the Day of Judgment.” Our beloved prophet (SAW) said,
“Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement. And whoever helps ease a difficulty in the world, Allah will grant him ease from a difficulty in the world and in the Hereafter.
In an another Hadith we find,
وَاللَّهُ فِي عَوْنِ الْعَبْدِ مَا كَانَ الْعَبْدُ فِي عَوْنِ أَخِيهِ
“Allah is engaged in helping the worshipper as long as the worshipper is engaged in helping his brother.”
Building Madrasah is a Sadaqa Jariyah, many kids will learn the Kalam of Allah, and we will keep getting reward inshaAllah.
